  • "you could always just decorate your tree with musical ornaments, such as a nice santa claus playing electric guitar, or a nice little clay boy playing a snare drum, or why not just a trumpet ornament? All of which can be found on our trees here at Music and Arts. All of our ornaments are your ornaments. Go ahead and pick them right off the tree, they aren't free, but they are worth their price. The clay people are going for 2 for $5 while the instruments are all 50% off leading them to be 4.95 each. We also have an amazing gift rack set up by our very own employee John. It's got loads of pretty nifty gifts for any musician, or heck, anybody at all! It's got pens, jewelry, notebooks, gift wrap, holiday cards, stuffed animals, some nice reading books, and loads of other nifty little things. And then we've got our instruments. A bit pricey for you since you may already have an instrument? Okay, well, hey, do you play guitar? Do you know somebody that does play guitar? Oh, alright, been playing for about a year now? Well, I've got something here that's really affordable that he or she might like. It's our "Pocket Pod." I like to call it our Gameboy For Guitarists. Why is that you ask? Well, it's pretty simple. It's got these little knobs here that all do one thing or another, all you gotta do is plug it into an amp, and plug the guitar into the pod, and start turning knobs, and you've got a completely different sound. It's really fun to play with, and after a while, it's something that can be really useful on the road if they were to travel or something. Yup, if you decide to buy it today, I can definately sell it to you for 100 bucks. It's actually going for a lot more right now, but I want to make sure it stays within your price range because I don't want you over spending, hahaha. Let me go ahead and show you this little slugger here too. It's a mini Amp. It clips right onto your belt, and it's got a volume knob, and a tone knob. Can't do too much with it, except amplify the guitar. However, combining it with the pocketpod, both of which easily clip to your belt buckle, it makes one wicked duo. It's going for 70 bucks right now, but since this here is the floor model, I can go ahead and give you... Hmm... 15% off sound good to you? Cool. Oh, you like that guitar up there? Yeah, it's a really good one. Does he like playing rock music? Yup, then that's one of the best ones for that. That ibanez there can really do the trick, and going for only 250, that's really something. personally, it's a bit pricey for me, granted, it's worth every penny spent on it, but I'm a really cheap kid, and with that being said, I would probably only be willing to pay 230 for it. So since that too is a floor model, I'll give you.... 20% off. Sounds good? Cool. Well, let's go ahead and ring you up and get you out of here then, don't want you to keep spending money on these amazing things here, hahaha. Let me go ahead and grab this extra set of strings and how about a guitar stand? It's only 12.95, and hey, I'll let you pick out a guitar strap too, and I'll just go ahead and toss in these picks for you for free. Sound good? Alright. My name's John, what was your's again? Okay, well, nice meeting you, and I hope your kid enjoys all this stuff. You have a nice day, and Merry Christmas!"

That was a basic overview of about 20 of my sales in the past week so far. And it's only Wednesday. So yeah. The average sale I make is about 600 bucks. yup yup.

  • haha, i'd get the first one all the time, but i always make a quick witty remark, "well, if you have any questions, feel free to ask any of us here, and If you see anything you'd like to try out, feel free to do so, if it's a horn, just let us know before hand."
and then for the second one, "you did? wow, that's weird, because Guitar Center owns Musicians Friend, and Guitar Center also owns us. So you seeing it there for cheaper is really weird. Well, luckily, we do match prices, and we do guarantee the better buy."
and it was funny that you mention that one i particular because a few people tried to pull that on me, so I'm like, "well, here, let me go ahead and look that up for you, since Musicians Friend is under the same company as us, we have access to their databases. Hmmm... well, it looks like here that they ARE selling it for the same price, but have a Christmas offer going on. So how's this, I'll go ahead and match the price right here and now, and I'll also give you 25 bucks off."
and this one guy, came in with a print off of a cheap poor quality keyboard from walmart, trying to figure out what he should get, and I pointed him to our keyboards, and we didn't have the one he had printed off. We had a newer model of what he printed. And it obviously costs more. But I told him that if he wanted to, I could order it for him and match the price, and perhaps give it to him for cheaper. and then he was like, "well, i have to think about it..." and i was like "alrighty no problem. we'll be here." and then he comes back 2 seconds later and was like, "could you maybe match the price of that newer model to this older model?" and i was like, "hmmm... how about... I try to... iunno... BEAT that price for you? eh? I'm pretty sure I can get this keyboard cheaper than the one at walmart for ya." and he was like, "if you can do that, you will definately be my hero. regardless, I think I'll just go ahead and take this keyboard anyway because it is the newer model, and you guys do know what you're talking about, unlike the guy at walmart who had no idea what the differences were." and i was like, "well thank you for your approval, hahaha!" and then i secretly took one of our coupons and gave him 25 dollars off, and i was like, hmmm... so then i gae him an extra 5 bucks off just because. and then  he was like, "oh wow! you did beat the price! that's amazing!" and i was like, "eh, i know. haha. here, let me grab you a keyboard stand and bench too, i'll give you half off the bench if you want, but that's all the discount I can give you." and he was like, "sure! that's more than kind of you!" and then i rung it up as a seperate sale so that i can use another of our 25 dollars off coupon. the benches are 50 bucks. so yeah. and then i was like, "so yeah, wait here a sec and I'll be right back." and i go to the back, grab him a survival kit which comes with everything you need/want for a keyboard like a power adaptor, pedal, etc etc. at music and arts, we give away survival kits to whoever buys a keyboard or piano. they're worth 50-200 bucks. but, we just hand them out. and not many people know that. and so i gave him the kit, and i said, "i'm also giving you this survival pack, which is something walmart does not do. so i hope your daughter enjoys this keyboard, and i hope to see you again sometime!" and he left happy.

  • i tend not to tell people if i do or not, because i like to get on a deeper level with the customer, get a trust level built with them, then they start believing everything i say. granted, i would never mislead or lie to somebody, because then that would just break the bond. but in turn, yes, i do make commission. it's a sales goal, not a sales quote though. so my job doesn't depend on selling things, granted, it is my job to sale things... but i don't have to meet my goal. yup yup. it would be nice to make that extra money though.

  • It's a beautiful tree, but . . .um. . .well, I think it misses the point. No worse than most "holiday" trees do, though.

Peace. Sometimes hard to find at this time of year. Hope you've got it, even if only deep inside.

    Feel better soon.

  • Oh my gosh!  That's IT!!!!  I have not had a topper on our tree...well, since we've had a tree...simply because I haven't found "the" one yet....this is perfect!!

  • ryc:  yes, i did.  but, i just liked the idea of the topper....(kidding, of course!) you know how some people put milk cartons strung w/ lights lining their sidewalks (maybe they only do that in nebraska????) this picture just gave me so many ideas and options for a tree topper...

  • That's amazing!
