  • I remember when shootings in schools would be such big news that all other news would be preempted and we would all be glued to the news to find out what was happening.  Now it gets a brief mention and they go on to talk about Britney's latest escapades or something like that.  And I used to seek out more info about the situation to try to figure out why it happened--why the person would do such a thing--how they got into the class with a gun, etc....  Now I hear it, and move on with my daily routine.

Is it possible that this has become so commonplace that it no longer seems shocking?  Can it be that I have become numb to this?  Wow.  I have been watching a show called "The First 48".  It is about real murders and shows how they get solved.  Ron wonders how I can watch it because he thinks it is grotesque.  Well...the reason I watch it is because I have become so numb...we hear about murders every day...and they cease to be people...you don't think about them as people.  This show makes them people with families and lives....  and it makes you remember that those murder victims were human beings.  So THAT is part of the reason that I watch the show.....

Something else that got to me this week.... it has been going on for quite a while, but I just was reminded of it again.  It's called "The Blasphemy Challenge".  Basically they are using Mark 3:29:  "Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." to challenge people to deny the the Holy Spirit and therefore "damn themselves to Hell".  They ask them to make a video and they have to say "I deny the Holy Spirit"  The part that makes me sick is watching all of the videos of people who took the challenge and have done it.  They equate Jesus with the Easter Bunny and Santa.  Many of them end with "see you in hell".  All on youtube for the world to see.  It makes me so very sad....  My heart is heavy for them...

    Ahhh...our world....sigh.....

    peace...

  • So you're saying "Britney" isn't more imprtant than five murder victims and 16 wounded? WHO ARE YOU?!?!?!?!

  • this world...the keith green song "there is a redeemer" keeps coming to mind for some reason...

  • When I get these February glums, and when I get depressed about stuff like you wrote about today, God reminds me to think on what is good, lovely, of good report, virtuous, praiseworthy, etc. Otherwise, I can definitely put myself into a depression. I also need to listen to praise music, since music has a powerful effect on my emotions.

Your comment made me smile. But then, they most always do. Hugs, Pam!

  • Wow, you are so right!  Sadness!  It's sad that we get so easily desensitized!  I know I do with my job..(social work)...So what happens when the shows wears off it's shock value? Too deep of thoughts for a Saturday morning...(11:00...)

Aww,... anyway..just wondered how your V-day was.  Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a sweet comment.  I'll post pics soon.

  • I know....I read that.  I was scared!  Whew...THAT would be bad!

    Enjoy the beautiful day!

With regard to the blasphemy site..I find it interesting that a group that is basically saying they do not believe in God and the bible use a text from the book they do not believe in to support their position! So they must believe that Mark 3:29 is true and the rest of the book is bunk. It seems like they are saying OK I don’t believe this but just in case it is true let me officially denounce it. To the believer this is very dangerous in fact deadly. But to the unbeliever, we and the bible are just foolishness. The can not understand what they are doing because their minds have not been opened by God and the Spirit is not in them. I think this is why when Jesus was dying on the cross He asked God to “forgive them because they do not know what they are doing” I believe the same applies here. They are making choices that have consequences that they can not understand so we must ask God to forgive them and embrace the awesome mystery of free will.
