Rant...
If this hits close to home....good!
So I have noticed a disturbing trend at the grocery store lately. I would say that 80%, no, make that 90% of all of the people at the grocery store who are shopping are on their cell phones. I find this to be annoying. Almost as annoying as when they are driving and on the phone... They are not paying attention to what they are doing...they are slower about what they are doing and they stop when they are more fully engrossed in their conversation. This makes it difficult for others to get around them... And, because they are on the phone, I feel like I am interrupting them when I say excuse me, to try to get past them. I usually enjoy my shopping experience. I like to take my time and browse and peruse, and I find that the increase in this phenomena has made it more difficult for me to enjoy myself. In addition, when they need to get past me, the people on the phone don't excuse themselves, because that would mean that they would have to interrupt their conversations, so instead, they barge into my cart, or push past, or through me, and I feel that my whole time is spent dodging and weaving... AND.... I also used to enjoy talking to fellow shoppers....which is impossible if they are already talking to others.... and finally...the other victims.... their children.... People who are on the phone have children with them who they are not talking to...so the kids are either running wild, or just sitting there with a blank look on their faces.... so sad... they are missing out on a great chance at interraction with their great kids!
What's funny is that when we were at the grocery store and I was sharing with Ron how everyone seemed to be on their cell phones, he picked up his phone and put it to his ear as if he was getting a call....and I bought it... I can't believe I fell for it... Wow...
So maybe this means that I am getting old, but sometimes it is nice to just enjoy where I am....
There's no solution...it is just annoying...so whatever....
peace...
btw, yes, it was Old Bay, and in the other picture, there was a painting behind the guys of a naked woman. That is a historical restaurant just a block from the White House where all of the government officials have gone for hundreds of years called Old Ebbit Grill, and it is filled with paintings of nude women for some reason...so we always go there on New Year's day for brunch, and take pics of the guys in front of the paintings...makes us laugh. Cause we are juvenile.

I too get annoyed by people on their cell phones. I passed one younger girl, probably my age, on her cell phone the other day, and she was raising her voice in frustration at the caller and telling all this personal information...she was compeltely clueless that everyone in our aisle and the surrounding two could hear all of her business.
My uncle is getting more stable, but he's still in pretty rough condition. They have him in ICU. I haven't heard any news today. So, that can be good or bad...I'm hoping for good, or just the same. Thanks for your prayers though. They are really appreciated...and I know my aunt and uncle feel them, even down in Houston.
I hear you, sister! If I get a call in the middle of the store I find a corner and try to get out of people's way - usually I try to not take the call. However, in my business - some I have to take. Check out my new blog...Real Life at Grace Go back to the first one and read the whole story when yo get a chance.
You make me want to run right out and buy one of them "bluetooth" thingies so I can talk to myself while I shop...
The best part is when the reception sucks... Maybe it doesn't in your civilized part of the world... so people think that yelling into a bad connection helps it travel better... I learn a lot about what's really going on in people's lives by overhearing one end of a cell call...
I guess there are advantages to living in the boonies where cell phones don't work well inside our grocery store. Heh.
It is strange how people get so unaware that they'll carry on a very private conversation in public. Gives new meaning to being alone in a crowd.
(so proud that I guess Old Bay)
Of course I knew it was Old Bay because I am from MD.
And I've been to the Old Ebbit Grill, but probably only once. How did I not notice the pictures? I guess that's a good thing. The guys seemed to be enjoying themselves. Yes, you are juvenile. That's why I like you. (there are probably other reasons too, but that's the main one.)
so, what's the other condiment? sheesh, leave me hangin' here!
i agree w/ everything you said above.---'cept when it's ME on the phone talking. ha! seriously, though my sister will call and want to chat and i'm in the middle of walmart. i try to talk quietly, feeling very self-conscious and not wanting other people to hear my end of the conversation whether it's private or not. usually, i just try to keep it short...and quiet. ..and not ignore my kids in the process. all this to say, that i think people can talk on their cell phones in public and not be too much of a nuisance... but, most people don't, therein lies the problem.
